In terms of the General Safety Regulations, what must an employer do with a person who appears to be under the influence of alcohol and/or has intoxicating alcohol or drugs in his/her possession

Flammable liquids are used in your factory and you made sure that the flammable liquid store is constructed such that it is ventilated to the open air in such a manner that the vapour cannot accumulate inside the store. To comply, requirements should include:

1. Construction of fire-resistant material of at least two hours resistance.
2. The flammable store must be separated by fire-resistance material of at least two hours.
3. The factory must be equipped with high-technology fire warning systems.
4. There must be a bung wall that will contain at least 110% of contents.

You have to carry out repairs to equipment inside a confined space which will take two technicians at least four hours to complete. Before you may allow the technicians to enter and work in the confined space you must:

1. Test the air.
2. Declare the air safe verbally.
3. Test the lighting.
4. Declare the air safe in writing.

In the event that a confined space must be entered and the air cannot be tested and a written report on the safety of the air made available, you must:

1. Fit any person entering the confined space with a safety harness attached to a rope which extends to the outside and which is attended to by another person.
2. Ensure that the person that is required to attend to the rope is trained in resuscitation and be able to prove this.
3. Ensure that breathing and resuscitation equipment approved by the chief inspector be immediately available outside the confined space at all times.

You have re-designed the mixing blades in a large closed metal drum which is used for mixing non-hazardous products. 1. Ensure there is effective ventilation provided and maintained.

4. Ensure it contains any substance which under heat may ignite, explode or react to form dangerous or poisonous substances.

When stacking boxes, the employer must ensure that the base is level and capable of sustaining the weight exerted on it by the stack.

When stacking pallets, the employer must ensure that pallets and containers are in good condition.

The employer must ensure that any support structure used for the stacking of articles is structurally unsound and can support articles to be stacked on it.

Gas containers can be horizontally stacked on top of one another.
