The competency includes all the activities required to successfully conduct incident investigations. Unit standard 9964 Apply Health and Safety to a work area NQF level 2 worth 3 credits. | Course structure: Module 1 · Investigating workplace incidents Purpose of investigation · Prepare for data gathering Purpose fit and availability of resources Hazard and risk control · Basic law of evidence · Evaluating data Gathering data accordingly Prevailing conditions Establishing variances Cause identification Consequences of non-compliance Report writing · Using Ohs Act requirements in an incident investigation · Post Investigation Reporting findings Dealing with findings Evaluating and recording accordingly Consequences of non-compliance · The effect of an incident on an Ohs Management system The purpose of a management system Identified shortfalls with respect to the Ohs management system Module 2 · Understanding danger, hazard, and risk – identify, remove, reduce and report · Implications of exposure to hazardous substances · What is a safety plan? · Establish what is applicable and whether compliance has been achieved through legal compliance auditing · Requirements for Personal Protective Equipment – Assessment, correct usage, and application · Emergency Procedures – location of fire extinguishers hoses and alarms. Different extinguishers for types of fires. Communication when there is an emergency situation · Procedure for reporting and recording illness or any emergency situation · What to do when the injury leads to a claim against the workman’s compensation.
