Purpose of the course:
The learners will be able to explain the rights, powers, functions, and duties of the workplace health and safety representative and how any errant health, and safety.   Learners will also be able to participate in the safety, health, and environmental structures and measure these activities according to health, safety, and environmental requirements.  

SAQA unit standard aligned:  
Unit standard 259622 Describe the functions of the workplace health and safety representative NQF level 2 worth 3 credits.  

Unit standard 9964 Apply Health and Safety to a work area NQF level 2 worth 3 credits.   Successful learners will receive competent certificates.

Understanding danger, hazard, and risk (HIRA overview) – identify, remove, reduce and report
Implications of exposure to hazardous substances
What is a safety plan?
Establish what is applicable and whether compliance has been achieved through legal compliance auditing (OHS Inspection and auditing overview)
Requirements for Personal Protective Equipment – Assessment, correct usage, and application
Emergency Procedures – location of fire extinguishers hoses and alarms.  Different extinguishers for types of fires. Communication when there is an emergency situation
Procedure for reporting and recording illness or any emergency situation
What to do when the injury leads to a claim against a workman’s compensation.Incident reporting and deadlines (Incident investigation overview).

Staff that has been earmarked, elected, and appointed as health and safety representatives.
