Entry Requirements
Learners must have:
- An NQF Level 2 qualification (equivalent to Grade 10 in South Africa), and
- Successfully completed the Basic OHS Compliance Ensurer skills programme.
Purpose of the Programme
This skills programme equips learners to perform effectively as Operational Workplace Hazard and Risk Assessors.
In every organisation, employees must proactively:
- Identify hazards
- Evaluate associated risks
- Implement actions to reduce or eliminate these risks
As a result, this programme develops essential skills to improve workplace safety and prevent incidents.
Exit Level Outcomes
After completing the programme, a qualified learner will be able to:
- Identify hazards and understand the risks linked to them
- Use organisational systems and processes for hazard identification and risk assessment
- Participate in departmental risk assessments
- Implement basic risk control measures to prevent incidents

Final Integrated Supervised Assessment (FISA)
Overview
The FISA combines both written and practical assessments to evaluate all exit level outcomes.
- Written Assessment
- Duration: Maximum 2 hours
- Total: 100 marks
- Format: Scenario-based questions and short answers
- Requirement: Minimum 70% to pass
- Practical Assessment
- Duration: Maximum 4 hours
- Requirement: Minimum 70% to pass
Learners may use a computer for the written assessment. Additionally, all assessments are supervised, and virtual sessions are recorded and camera-monitored.
Written Assessment Competencies
During the written component, learners must demonstrate the ability to:
- Use hazard identification tools and complete risk documentation
- Summarise and interpret risk information from organisational sources
- Apply operational risk assessment procedures
- Solve problems using risk control principles
Practical Assessment Competencies
During the practical assessment, learners must demonstrate competence in a simulated workplace by:
- Applying tools and procedures to identify hazards and assess risks
- Extracting and applying risk-related information
- Participating in team-based risk assessments
- Implementing and evaluating risk control measures
Competency Requirements
- Learners who meet all requirements will be declared “Competent.”
- Learners who do not meet all requirements will be declared “Not Yet Competent (NYC).”
If declared NYC:
Learners will complete a reassessment using new scenarios or tasks.
Learners will receive additional training
